“But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.” And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. Jesus said: Come!” Matthew 14:27-29
In the midst of wind and waves, Peter had the audacity to ask Jesus to invite him to come to Him on the water! And when Jesus did, he had the courage to step out of the boat! If you’ve ever tried stepping out of a boat even in good weather, you know how wobbly and unstable it is. What made him dare to do this?
I’ve heard sermons on this part, that Peter didn’t just walk on water, He walked on the Word; The invitation: Come. And this has really blessed me. Stepping out in faith is not stepping out into the unknown, but it is stepping out on the authority of the Word.
As i read this account again I noticed this: “he walked on the water to go to Jesus.” His heart was set on one thing: To go to Jesus, the Word Personified. When we keep our eyes on Him, nothing is impossible. 🙂
